About Our School
Dr. Hamman School is located in Taber, Alberta and serves students from pre-kindergarten to grade five.
The school was named after Dr. Alfred Hamman who was born in Cheshire, England in 1866 and who came with his family to Taber in July 1909 where he was a Mine Doctor for the Canada West Coal Company. He practiced medicine in Taber from 1909 to 1941, and also served at a school trustee for twenty years. Dr. Hamman lived in Taber until his death in 1958 at the age of 92.
The school was named after him as a tribute to his service and work in the Taber community. The school was officially opened in September 1954, and was later closed in 1988 to be modernized and renovated. The school then re-opened in September 1989.
